btw uploads are working again and downloads should have enough speed that your users should download/stream without problems. Not that fast but working to watch a stream
 
no but a lot of files there... the server crashed completely and destroyed the filesystem... so we could only rescue about 80 %... if you see a dead link with blank page then the file is gone :( if we wouldn't have a RAID1 system all files would have gone.. so we are happy to tell you almost all files are still available... but this happened only to server s54... so that's the reason we're moving the files from this server to other servers. so we can shut this server down.. it's just for downloads at the moment
 
correct... the problem was that server rebooted a few times and probably the filesystem got damaged... we don't know... but that's life. I heard there are other hosters that don't use any RAID or just RAID0 what is useless in case of a crash...

But you must understand if you have a server with e.g. 50TB you can only use 25TB in RAID1. So it's all about the money... Who will spend 25TB just for data protection?

25TB is much! So if you use the full 50 TB in RAID0 you have the double amount of data storage and you can safe a lot of money... But it's not worth it to lose customers files just for better speed...

It's not easy to decide if you choose data protection in this business because it's very expensive as you just have half of the servers storage space for your users...

we all learn.....maybe a solution is to protect partially the data. most important is that problem is identified and hope to be solved soon.

hope the smaller servers on monday will respond better and faster and setup correctly:sun:
