I am Niko Wolf, developer at safebyte. I'd like to tell you our story:

About a year ago, a few friends met to enjoy a beer.
They had been lucky enough to turn their hobby into their profession,
so they decided to talk about the good old times; as internet connections were slow,
dubstep was only a modem sound and the word "nerd" didn't just describe a fashion-style.

Times changed, the internet evolved for good - but all of them agreed on missing
one thing: The joy that came with accessing the whole media library of a friend
(on a LAN party or by bringing your external hard-drive), was gone.

„Well...“, one said. „The high-speed is there, but the feeling isn't.“

True... the others thought. But why is sharing files in 2014
still so ****** complicated and just.no.fun?

"Let's make it easy.“, they decided.

We aim to be „the world's desktop“.

Our goal is to make sharing with your friends as easy as possible - it's just a drag.
You can use your existing contacts (e.g. Facebook - should try that).
We care for everything else. No dictating links, dealing with email attachments
or any more "and how do I get this thing now?"-calls.

Use Apps to play games and organize stuff.
Or create your own Applications to make working with your data
easier & more effective (we're always extending these features).

We love UI. It should look and work as expected. And safebyte does!
You can customize it pretty much up to 100%.
Starting by your wallpaper or even modifying the CSS.

There has never been anybody saying:
„Yay, let's download, watch and then delete this video instead of streaming it“.
Play music, videos or view documents - directly from your browser.

Still use the good guy VLC? We've implemented him!

We offer an affiliate program!
However it's still (really) tiny; and we want to do things decent.

(county & filesize dependent).

I'll try to update this section with the most common questions about safebyte


  • This is still a beta version, right?

    Exactly. And we're not (yet) prepared to handle as much traffic as some of you might be able to provide.
    Please be patient.

  • Will you offer more space for free users?

    Yes! We're currently offering 500mb (+50 GB swap) for free users.
    We will change these numbers in order to compete, as soon as safebyte evolves. However, it is possible to
    gain reputation points by completing a few easy tasks. Gained points can be spent to obtain more
    space & traffic (this is unlimited, referred users will also generate points).

  • There's a bug, what should I do?

    Refreshing the page should be enough for most problems. You can also reboot safebyte.
    Please report the bug to me. We'll reward any unreported bug. Thank you!

  • Where are you located?

    safebyte, it's employees, the company and their servers are located in germany.
    Germans are well-known for actually caring about privacy - so that's a good thing.

  • Will you access my files?

    We're convinced that a service provider shouldn't be able to view any of your files.
    We consider your data private and we will never access it, if we're not legally obligated to.

  • I'd like to contribute, are you guys interested?

    Hell yea, we are. Contact me! Feel free to share you ideas, we appreciate any contribution.

  • Can I have a PRO account?

    Yes, reply to this thread with your safebyte username and we'll upgrade your account
    as soon as possible (free of charge).

Site looks awesome, but only 500MB storage, that's like lets say 2 video files.
Dropbox has 2GB, Mega has 50GB.

You're right, as mentioned in the first post, we're planning on increasing these number as soon as we've grown a bit!

We're currently deploying an update, there might be temporary problems but everything seems to be fine right now.

I was getting "Not enough Space" all the time, even though i had enough space
seems to work now!

can you describe a little bit more about the remote upload and the download commission? do you really pay 100 eur for 1000 download?

You don't have to fuck the dropbox, you can simply import your dropbox!
