Have to agree with Hx. I do believe it would divide the community to an extent. Every rank on WJ is currently earned. A paid rank would go against this. From what I find on other sites experienced members and staff feel encouraged to help premium/vip members more as they donated to help the community. I don't want to feel pressured or encouraged into helping one member over another. Everyone is equal in that regard.

Also this was discussed about two years ago and the admins said it would never happen. I know their is new admins now but I'd have to agree with the old ones on this. eLight said the financial status of WJunction was fine when it was taken over and no further adverts or money making sources would be added. Considering the adverts haven't being reduced as promised and the financial status hasn't changed I don't think it's needed from an income point of view.

A paid rank is something I'd personally be strongly against.

Agreed !

No Need of Premium Members instead we dont mind if Admins Keep 2-3 Banners more !

@eLight yes the number of adverts has reduced but I was under the impression from earlier comments you made that they would all have being removed. It is going in the right direction though.
@Mr Happy
Every Webmaster board has the paid rank
Not true
people create Websites to get the cash. Those who say the opposite are just lying. We all expect the cash...
Not true and your incredibly greedy for thinking this. I create, as do thousands of others, loads of sites just to learn, for schools, charities, local football teams, clubs, community projects, educational and other non profit organisations.
@iMage
So people should only get enough money of their Website for server costs? :facepalm:
Sure WJ should earn it's owners money but don't generalize websites. Thinking every website is based around earning money is a terrible attitude.
anyone who runs a site is trying to make money no one is going to waste there time in a site if they dont make any money.
As I said to Jason.

Lol... Look at you now, comparing non-profit sites with sites like WJunction, sites that actually generate the profit.

My attitude is perfectly fine, people who create sites like this expect profit. They don't create them to receive comments like: "Oh, you guys are great, doing this all for free, and giving us this chance to earn money, very nice of you".

Well Jason its up to the admins if they want to earn or not but your wrong when you say all webmasters want to earn from their sites which is not true. Not everyone want to earn from their sites and regarding the paid membership is just an awful idea because it will split up the community. But i like your way of thinking regarding marketplace maybe have an system where users have to give their personal details before being allowed to post in marketplace.

Exactly lokiloki. Jason even your site TabooGirls doesn't have adverts or donation rank and I don't think that fits into the charity or educational group. Your constantly contradicting yourself.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a paid rank. How about replicating what DP does, partially.

Say, a one time payment to get phone verified. Once you're phone verified, it shows up as such in your profile. Now obviously phone verification is something serious, so only the ones serious about their business here would go for it. Not only is that a fairly better way of verifying members, it's also one that should boost people's confidence in the phone verified sellers - they went through a specific verification step instead of just paying money to get a color.

That, and maybe offer the paid members some kind of perks. Like, they can stick one of their threads every week for 2-3 hours or something. Maybe give them the authority to close their own threads.

Larger PM space is a good idea too, not that it's generally needed, but it's a good idea. Could also be given the advantage of being able to purchase an advertisement on WJ at a discounted price? A private section for the paid members?

Every bit of what I suggested can happen without the need of a special color to the user's rank/name. That won't break the community apart, and the ones who want the perks can pay for them too; just that simple.

This is an stupid idea because it will divide up the community.

I agree with this, can't be arsed to read further posts as they'll probably be saying a bunch of stuff I'm thinking.

No need for a private section/special coloured username.

I disagree with it making the rich richer and poor poorer as:

1) It won't make anyone richer
2) Most people who wouldn''t be able to afford it are too young to own a credit card.

Nothing mentioned is worth paying for. WickedFire, BHT and all those successful webmaster forums have premium sections that work because they allow blackhat material to be sold and webmasters are widely spread to a variety of niches unlike here on WJ. They don't care about post counts, rank, avatar size, and other childish shit many people here care about. In order for WJ to function properly with a premium section, they'd need to weed out the dumb shit like post-whores and rank-whores and try to escape from the warez world.

Money-wise, WJ has potential to use the connections it has with the major filehosts such as Filesonic, WUpload, UploadStation, Fileserve to create some sort of deal for VIP/Premium members to get an extra 5% on earnings or whatever. Couple that with a few of the best web-hosts on WJ for hosting deals and you might have a functioning VIP system.
