Long-time lurker finally saying hi — I build AI video tooling

Hi all,

I've been reading WJunction threads on and off for a while and finally got around to registering.

What I do: I work on the product side of a small AI video tool. Most of my week is spent on things like render queue behaviour, prompt-to-shot consistency, and the boring but important parts — pricing pages, onboarding, and trying to explain to people why a 4K clip of six seconds still costs real GPU money.

Where I'm still learning: SEO and link building at the small-site level. I've read a lot of the threads here about how directories and community posts actually move the needle versus just inflating numbers, and that's the part I want to get better at.

So: what's one thing you wish you'd known in your first year of running a site? I'll take reading recommendations too — happy to be pointed at older threads I've missed.

Cheers,
Michael

welcome. one thing id have wanted to know early: update and improve a small set of pages instead of pushing out tons of thin ones, it pays off way more. and directories barely move anything now, a few real mentions from niche sites do
