Description:

LiveW is a Linux OS based on openSUSE (11.1 atm) which is targeted at warez users. It includes a range of programs and tools for downloading, running and viewing warez. It also has many things pre-installed and configured which you normally don't find in Linux distros such as Ubuntu, openSUSE, etc including Flash, PlayOnLinux, Wine, lots of codecs, Microsoft core fonts, working and pre-configured sub-pixel font rendering for LCD monitors etc. You don't have to remove Windows or install it in order to use, you can just boot from the CD (Live CD). Though if you like you can still easily install it to your harddrive after you booted the CD, and I would recommend doing so. Another thing worth noting is: no viruses, trojans, keyloggers, BSOD's whatsoever! However, you can still get Rick Roll'd.

Download Mirrors (Current version: 0.0.3 ALPHA):

More mirrors are welcome! If you uploaded the ISO to your server/VPS or a file host please share the link(s) in this topic, thanks :).

Changes since the last version:

  • Changed Firefox default theme to one that looks more like the Windows version.
  • Fixed issue in Firefox where it would not select the correct program for opening files.
  • Added some Firefox 'Scene Bookmarks' (More will be added later)
  • Pre-installed Firefox add-ons: AdBlock Plus, GreaseMonkey, KDST, Im4ge, IC Tools.
  • Added Ndiswrapper package.
  • Some other small config tweaks here and there.
This the last ALPHA release.

Known Issues:

  • In some cases the splash screen doesn't show while booting.
  • Sometimes the system reverts to the default openSUSE theme. If this should happen you can easliy change it again by going to Computer > Control Center > Appearance and changing the theme to LiveW 0.1.
  • Some of the openSUSE art, branding and icons hasn't been replace yet.
  • This is an ALPHA release, other issues and bugs should be expected.
Things not present yet that will be in the Final version:

  • Additional Firefox Add-ons, Bookmarks and Plugins.
  • Homebrew scene apps and some custom programs by me (for warez users).
  • A Peer-2-Peer client.
  • Simple CompizConfig Settings Manager.
  • Some other stuff which I can't think of now.

Minimum system requirements:
- Single core AMD Athlon64 or 64 bit Pentium 4 processor
- 256MB RAM, 512MB is highly recommended
- 3GB HDD (for installation)

I would personally also recommend a recent ATI or nVidia card.

Oh, my bad. I guess you meanly mean the blurred transparent window decoration? In any case, I don't design themes myself since I'm no good with gfx etc. I made the theme by putting together controls, icons, etc from various other themes and resources. Like taking the best parts from some themes to create one good one. That's why I said credits go to whoever made the various parts of the theme :). But if you know a good theme, theme engine, or some other tool which gets what you want/mean I'll certainly look into it.

Edit: something along the lines of http://www.gnome-look.org/CONTENT/content-pre1/44180-1.jpg maybe?

yea hypez to comment on your comment I know you cant make every1 happy, sorry I didnt see the text on the blue bg. Looks good. Do you want a starting page with links coded for the main browser page?

PM me a list of links you want on it and ill finish it up for you

Well, I consider stuff like the bookmarks, FF start page and the custom apps to be details. Right now the focus is to just get every app in there configured correctly so that everything works well. In Linux that stuff tends to take some time. So what I'm saying is that I/we shouldn't rush things, first things first. Once everything is configured the alpha will be released. After that I will listen to feedback from you guys and try and fix bugs if any are found. Once all that is done then I will start on the "details" and release the 1st stable version :).

Hyperz i think this is a good project.... and not only that will increase popularity to warez over torrents....

Look into Backtrack and Sabayon and also slackwhere.. if you dont know already... them are my top 3 distro's Sabayon being no.1

Never worked with those. But I do know that openSUSE, and thus LiveW in a sence, was orriginally based on Slackware a long, long time ago.

Yes, that is actually a perfect example of what I was getting at. That theme is perfect, except the window titles look kind of dumb with the black text outlined by white. And if the window borders were rounded, that would be a HUGE plus.

Well I'll check out the theme once I get close to the final. The thing is that it's an Emerald theme so it requires 3D acceleration and compiz to be enabled, kinda like how you need to turn on Aero in vista/7. So IF i would use the theme it would only work after drivers have been installed by the user.

Oh, damn.

I've gotten more work done today then I'd expected and didn't hit as many problems as I thought I would. The 1st ALPHA should be out later today or tomorrow. I just finished testing the latest ISO build and I have to say I'm getting pretty exited about it now myself.

Whether you try Ubuntu, SUSE, or just about any other Live CD there's always tons of stuff that don't work yet. I.E no mp3 support, can't play video's, don't visit youtube because flash ain't installed, and the list goes on. Then there's that big amount of time that's lost in setting everything up, installing MS fonts and subpixel fontrendering an whatnot.

This boots and is ready to go. Nearly every single aspect that is a pain when meeting Linux for the 1st time or having to install it has be worked away. I'm sure other Linux users know well enough what I'm talking about ;). Can't wait to use and install it myself to be honest. And this is just the beginning :).

I used to have a nice theme on ubuntu (emerald). Ill see if i can find it.

That would be nice :).
