Why would want to host a site on your home machine? Is it a test project and you want it to be available to you only?

If so, use something like XAMPP.

If not, I am interested in your reason to host on your home machine. And also, what machine is it?

It's a:BX80646I34130T,16GB/RAM DDR3,1 Tera SATA3 HDD 7200 rpm.
I want to have all control on my website files.
No more limits on cpu..etc.
:fly:+ i can sell space for others, example: ftp.

i host all my sites from home then i rent a simple vpn tunnel from a service that takes pay with bitcoin, works great for me! my server cost is around 10$ a month and the server generates around 1500$ a month

it's currently a simple desktop computer Q6600 2.4ghz processor, 8gb ddr3 ram, and a 120gb/SSD sitting in a closet. I have a 100/100mbit un-metered pipe at home.

you need some skills in operating ngnix or apache software, firewall and linux, if you know your way around these things and have a good connection at home renting a server isn't worth it!

good luck!

If you have a high traffic website your bandwidth will probably be too small to answer all requests .. what is your possible upstream?

This is a good idea and also a fun project.

Some points worth mentioning:
1) Backup: Use a software like Acronis to clone your OS HDD for a working windows backup.
Get a NAS to backup at least your www docs and your config files.
2) Use a DDNS service that has a built it failsafe to redirect your traffic to an offline page incase your server is down.
3) Make sure you know where to get replacement parts that fit to your Server.. Or as I like to call it, Amazon Prime.
4) If you plan to sell, sell to friends. Hosting from home is a nono even in cool countries like the NL. ;)
5) Calculate power bills. Maybe even invest in a low consumption PSU.

You can get a shared webhosting for as low as $1 per month, so there is no need to host it at home...

you never get the kind of performance or bandwidth costs i get with hosting from home, with over 3tb och traffic out per month and around 80% cpu load (on a quad core dedicated) from over 10 different domains i'd be blown away if you could find a host that would do all that for 10$ a month, it would costs so much it wouldn't be worth it!
