How do you manage multiple movie/anime sites without going crazy?

Curious how others here handle this.

If you run several movie, anime or drama sites, the usual setup is a separate install for each one. That means:

  • Importing the same titles again on every site
  • Fixing a broken link or player in several admin panels
  • Updating themes, plugins and SEO settings site by site
  • A new server or hosting account every time you add a site

It works with two or three sites, but it gets painful fast after that.

How do you deal with it? Separate installs, WordPress Multisite, some sync plugin, custom scripts? What breaks most often for you?

Full disclosure: I'm the developer of BlackKitt, a CMS built around exactly this problem. One hub holds the content library and runs unlimited sites, any type and any mix: ten movie sites, five anime sites, or all of them at once. Each site gets its own domain, theme and content rules, so two movie sites can still be completely different, for example one with only horror, another with only Hindi films, another with only new releases. Remote sites run from a single file on any host. Happy to answer questions, but I'm mainly interested in how others solve it today.

multisite works until one plugin update breaks and takes every site down with it. bigger worry for me with 10 sites on one hub is footprint, same content same structure same server makes them easy to link together. how do you handle that, separate ips per site?

fair point. that’s what remote sites are for. each one is a single index.php on its own host, so it gets its own IP and domain, and visitors and crawlers never see the hub. assets, robots and sitemaps are served from the site’s own domain too. give each site its own theme and content rules and they don’t look related.

and if the hub ever goes down, the edges keep serving their cached pages, so one bad update doesn’t take every site offline
