I am not a tech savvy in this area but I believe that removing a nonexistent thanks could have led vB to insert -1 in an unsigned field.

I put it to the test with TamperData, don't have the permissions needed, L0calhost is a moderator, so I'm guessing he can unthank himself multiple times - has the permissions. Yippy :D
