Why some forums choose one file host over other

I am interested in how do forums choose file hoster for which users can post links. Is there an agreement between the file hoster and the forum? Why is WinRAR the most common format for uploading file. I mean if it is split then it makes sense, but I often see that a single file is also put in a RAR archive.

I think thats automated if a single file is RAR-ed, another point would be that RARring a single file will give it another MD5 sum, meaning its harder to be found, and deleted by the filehost as "illegal file"

Well, you can repair damaged rar file...and you can't repair damaged .msi installation, or avi, right?? Simple, more safer way to transport files over internet.

Additional queries:

* Are these forums and DDL sites established for profit? How do you earn revenue from these sites. For example, the DDL site has links to various content which people can easily download without paying the forum or DDL anything.

*How much is the estimated monthly cost of running forums like wjunction or DDL sites? Is there a profit objective or it is altruistic.

*People who upload content to one click hosts and post links on various sites. Are they doing because they like sharing or for profit? For example, they acquired the content (e.g., movie DVD or BluRay or Software), which must cost them money, then why do they provide it for free to others.

*Are there scripts that allow uploaders to upload to multiple forums and blogs automatically?

DDL sites link to paysites and make money of dumb people who signup
Example: http://katz.cd/search?q=fak3+download

Click 1 of the 4 links and follow the steps.

A DDL site costs nothing to run, before you need a big $100 server to host you website, you've made loads of money off signups

If they upload to filehosts that pay per download, they do it for profit. If they upload to Mediafire or similar hosts, they do it for sharing (mostly)

Yes, browse the forum

WinRAR is being used for many years now, this won't change anytime soon.
Single links being rared is cause of shitty autoscripts, and most forums don't make specific deals with Filehosts, but as there are 10000 out there, it would be a complete mess if everything was allowed.

I also wanted to know what you guys think on the following matters:

*How do people acquire content posted on DDL sites (forums, blogs, etc.)? I mean that all of these content - TV episodes, Movies, Music, Porn - comes at a cost. Someone has to acquire it at a cost for the very first time to make it available online. Of course once it is public then more people can make copies out of them. The question is how do people get the original content in the first place? What is the incentive for sharing the links since most people download them for free?

*BitTorrent is known for content pollution. Fakes files being uploaded by malicious people or by the movie industry. Is this seen in content hosted on one click hosting sites? From my experience most of the content on one click hosting is clean. I.e., the content is what is stated in the name.

because some filehosts are good and other sucks? :O

for example... filesonic has still the 400MB limit by default, and i know at least 3 not big but not small forums which doesn't allow filesonic at all or some where you must change your settings to allow free users to download up to 1GB files at filesonic or you will get banned.

the moderators on the sites must control this, so that people can't post fake downloads... also if they do then they should be banned.

forums and websites profits from filehosts for premium sales sold in their site.

yes... but not as much as the file hosts do. ;)

I still dont understand pornbb choosing oron over many much popular sites

no idea... maybe that oron owner is the same as the pornbb owner? :O or they just got such a good deal, which they couldn't reject.

well a lot of filehosts suck and most used it for cash purposes so could give a F... about quality thats why a lot of site ban "CASH WHORES" File hosting sites in order to have good quality posts, etc
