Why is WJ hosted in Netherlands ?

NetherLands have hosted many Big Sites and the Hosting is also very Cheap here and here the Hosting Speed are faster compared to other countries USA, UK etc.

It is known that The Netherlands has great connectivity througout the world with a great backbone of bandwidth providers.
I have to agree & disagree with Elights statement on it being cheaper compared to USA - because you can get a stable network & servers in USA.
But in Netherlands you will find the bandwidth prices are of a much higher cost, more than likely know due to the blend of providers and the sheer quality off the bandwidth you are recieving.

NL, it's not like there's a shortage on hosting companies to go with. Though it is hard to find someone who provides what you want at a reasonable cost! Either NL or DE, or someone in that area.

Storming, that's true. I guess it all depends... For example, I value the "global" connectivity of EU compared to the USA. If you shop around you can find decent pricing but there's definitely some great deals going on in the USA.

That correct - some locations in the USA have good connectiviety worldwide that works great, but it is hard to find the perfect place when theres so many options to choose from. You will find with most providers in USA that its lower end bandwidth which is provided (Hence the high amounts you recieve!) but they also do have access to higher levels if your prepared to pay for it. But in most cases it does cost a bomb.
I'm happy with 2TB traffic provided in NL compared to 10TB as an standard now you see in the USA, due to the simple fact i know that I'm paying for good bandwidth and also the fact its not exactly oversold as you see now a days.

Let's recode a lot of the css to use sprites and CSS gradients. It makes a massive difference and WJ has being laggy lately. It's not that hard to do and would only take like an hour. I'm sure you've seen the benefits of it working on Katz.

The lag though has been us basically hitting a brick wall in terms of CPU and HDD. That, along with a constant bombardment of DDoS attacks doesn't do much for our load times.

Whoever it is DDoS'ing, just get a life :P

The downsides of hosting in the netherlands is the language barrier. I'd consider UK hosting personally, because it's my own currency and it's super cheap imo.

Every hosting company (Ecatel, Leaseweb, Worldstream etc.) knows the english language.. And NL is cheaper than UK for bandwidth.

NL has cheap bandwidth and a good infrastructure and now that they have this big responsibility(they host a lot of big sites like wikipedia) they need to keep on upgrading so it will only get faster and faster.
And it's fast for us europeans,that's another advantage imo :p

everybody is speacking of advantages of NL comparing its prices for hosting and bandtwith with other countries...
but as for me NL is still bulletproof regardinig DMCA complaints...
and this is the policy of the whole country...

and if the situation change - what country will replace it?... (if I could explain my question correctly)

Because the Netherlands has the best network and infrastructure. Plus it's cheap.

Also there is nothing illegal on WJunction I think. Don't worry for complains.
