Why are .in domains so expensive?

Don't know man. I have seen many providers that sell .in domains for cheap prices like $3-4 then renewal charges are like $15-18.
Check namecheap, its $15.99
 
Actually they are cheap comparing to other TLDs, I've just checked name.com and it says .in domain costs around 4$ (though I'm not sure about renewing fee).

Anyway you should always stick with top-level domains (.com/.org/.net).
 
I was just asking, don't have any plans to buy one.

@others: I have seen the renewal costs go as high as $17-18/per. Don't know what the reason is.
 
Free domain with hosting is a different thing.

.in is meaningful and easy to pronunce and also it is monosyllabic... its superior to other domains..even when we compare with .com , but as far they are related with indian country , ppl from other countries hesistate to buy that domain,so they just attracting indian webmasters to buy that domain for 3$ or 4$ for the first year. and they are charging 15$ above for the recursive year.... finally i wanna say .in is superior domain of all.... thats the reason.....
