I have been looking at a number of VPN providers ... when it comes right down to it, is there any reason not to simply choose a general inexpensive provider like ipvanish?

Yes you can go with IPVanish but it totally depends on your requirements not all vpn provides you complete freedom of accessing torrenting and streaming sites. I tried IPVanish once but I rate it as an average VPN instead I would recommend here TotalVPN instead which is less expensive and upto the mark.
