well thanks for the suggestion but I'm gonna use the script to embed videos on my own site. I don't want to get into the video hosting business. So I'm looking for a cheaper option.

You're contradicting your opening post. You can use something like XVS to host videos for your own site(s) without running an actual video hosting business. Although for that something like KVS is a way better solution. Regardless, you're not going to find anything significantly cheaper than that price range that's actually worth using because scalable video hosting software is a lot more complex than you seem to think, and that will be reflected in the pricing of such software.

Being DMCA-proof is up to your hosting, not the script. And yes, but keep in mind KVS is a complete "porn tube" script, not just something to host videos like XVS. You'd use this as a replacement for WordPress for example.
