All domains are monitored by ICANN except the Geographical regional domains like .Eu .nl .in .es these are monitored by its on public domain registry of the respective government

and ICANN falls under US government IT department

From my knowledge have attended ICANN conferences feel free to correct me

Afilias control dot org with offices around the world including the USA. They control dot info and a number of others.

i think the USA govt should stop trying to act like the run/own the internet just cause people are sharing the stuff that is made there, they cant control the what goes on and especially the laws of other countries.. (i don't mean to offend and Americans by this)

Mine is .co ^:)^

And does Columbia have treaties with the USA? I would check before you say no!

The stuff that brought all this about was not made on the internet is was made and the copyright is owned by companies in the USA and the government is protecting the property of it's citizens and corporations.

absolutely i agree Internet is a global asset currently its like ancestrally property of us

While the internet is a global asset it does not make it or it's users exempt for laws.

Yes understood but i feel domain should be governed by the laws of the country from which the citizen have registered the domain

Copyright is a load of BS anyway. It's just made up laws in order for rich companies to make even more money.

The whole idea of making money from eg musical recordings is a relatively new one, and one which, now that we have the internet and ease of copying files is one that might not even last much longer.

Before fats cats invented copyright, art was free and people made art and shared art simply for the love of art.

Greed has made that into an ugly money-making affair.

So, copyright schmopyright! >:)

.co is safe??

You can take any position you choose but copyrights are legal and enforceable in most countries, it becomes more enforceable if the company infringed upon has an office in the country of the infringer.

If it was your works being distributed with out compensation you would be screaming you were being robbed ans scammed.

There's no argument from me that it is illegal. That doesn't make my points any less valid.

Again, the idea of "compensation" for creating something is a relatively new one. With the rise of capitalism and greed, we have commodified every single last thing possible to the extent that a child drawing a picture of mickey mouse is illegal. UNBELIEVABLE

If the forces that be in the US could just step outside their little bubble and see how atrociously ugly this quest for power and more and more money is then we would be one step in the right direction. They are like little school children with their toys stamping their feet and crying "it's mine and no one else can have it because i say so!" mine mine mine! want want want! we'll find a way to make all the websites do as we say even if it means dishing out massive amounts of cash to the politicians as bribery! Disgusting. But that's proper legit and it's the guy who downloaded 30 mp3s from kazaa who is the evil scumbag, right?

Actually you should do more research.

They have the dot us domains. Companies based in or with offices in the USA control or own the rights to many domains.

Go to Wikipedia and search your favorite and find out who holds the rights to it and where there offices are.

No..i know dot us domain is available. :)
But if they want to control everything they should give their own domain name domain dot usa :))

.uk .co .eu .au
You could not be more wrong :(

.uk: The UK actually EXTRADITES even it's own citizens (!) to the US to be imprisoned!

.co: Verisign = USA = just like .com

.eu: No Privacy Protect possible/allowed. Good luck with the cops at your door!

.au: Also a big no .. long story.
