Shared Hosting or VPS ?

Hey guys, i want asking something.My friend got final project for final sem, he wan create social network site.Shared hosting or VPS is should he use?

Depends on how big he wants it to get.

Well if it's gonna be a social network start with a small vps and then when the site gets more traffic etc... move on to a larger vps.
