Respected Group Title

At one time on WJunction this group was called "Respected Webmaster"

This is a webmaster forum and the brown rank was originally for respected webmasters, Im not sure when this was changed but i think it should be Respected webmaster, NOT respected member.

Its pretty obvious that members of this forum are webmasters. So in this context, its obviously respected webmasters (also respected members) who fall into the same category.

Yea i remember it got changed but i cant remember the exact reason for it, I think some people were bitching about it having the word webmaster in it and people who were in the respected group could not code nor owned any websites.

To be honest it does not really matter imo since we are all here for webmaster related reasons so i think it is kinda implied.

As i remember we had respected hosts also which got merged with respected webmasters so to generalize the group it was named Respected members - Though not sure or accurate

It was to allow graphic artists, etc to become respected. It looked silly having members who hadn't a clue about running a website but were helpful members and were good at graphics, uploading*, moderating or other skills getting promoted.


*while I've referred to uploading as a skill I don't consider it one.

So leaving uploaders you don't think graphic designers or any other user with any other skill is entitled for a rank upgrade? or just a WEBMASTER or practically now a days any user with a website can be thought of for a respected promotion.

In my mind anyone who has contributed to the community in any form deserves a Respected member rank promotion rather it be as u call a WEBMASTER or a Graphic designer or a server admin or a site dead posts or faulty posts reporter they all contribute to the site in general

Your view of "respect" is completely wrong over here Mr. Happy.
Pretty surprised that you actually wrote this.

You gain respect through your contributions to the community and through your attitude. Not that you must be a webmaster alone. Perhaps you think that a graphics designer can't be a webmaster, or vice versa. You are partially correct, but people who have enough contributions to the community deserve to be promoted.

at first,it was Respected Webmasters, group got deleted by st0ne, then ex-staff only were Respected Members, got changed to Respected Webmasters again and and let alot of people in, since alot in group were not webmasters , got changed to Respected members again.

If you had Respected Webmaster group then Respected Designer is required as well. It's a lot easier to group them in one, Respected member group, so I don't really have a problem with group's name.

I think the "Respected Members" group is fine just the way it is as Smith stated above.

If it ain't broken then don't fix it. This is one of those things that just doesn't require attention atm.

Respected Members is vast enough to encompass anyone here on WJ.
