Program to edit/produce audio???

Is there a program that can edit, add, produce an audio? For example: I have an audio of me talking and in the background I would be able to add a sound effect to suit the mood.

Is there a free program that can do that? Please help!

Why can't you just make one thread?

Audacity is free and good but it's a little complicated. If you want something paid there is Soundbooth by Adobe as well as fruityloops.
