Prevent Auto-Posters ??

Hi

am trying to find a way from preventing people from using auto-posting softwares to post to my forum. it's been lately jammed and scammed with fake downloads and multiple posts that i can't handle anymore.

please help me out. i heard there's a way to do so by modifying .htaccess file. any idea ? would really appreciate it

Best thing would be adding a captcha...so that everyone has to enter captcha before creating a thread.

captcha is actually the best solution you can get. but i don't know if mp4 can bypass captcha. but i don't think so.

I would start with it, and if it doesn't stop, then try something else.

there is a way to prevent autoposters (not all tho).you can contact their coders to give the user agent to bloc.
also as far as I remember vbultin captcha has been cracked and it's been updated.to make sure that they don't byoass it use reCaptcha instead.

reCaptcha won't do anything. MP4 goes right through it. Use the "2+2=?" method. It should work!

just pm jayfella the name of list of using mp4 who is doing in wrong way
his username and ip
he will block it

Detect and ban them..It's easy to differentiate between a normal poster and a person using a multi-poster..There is thread on WJ with info about how to detect Multi-posters..

If you use any other, jayfella will add it until its custom coded by you.

Can I suggest a best way ??

Just ban all the user agent except FF, Chome, IE & Opera (PC version) & Safari.
Auto Poster = Manually generated user agent.
so It will block them for sure.

I`m though not sure about adding some more famous browsers to list.
Hows my idea ?

nEw_boY .. i like your idea, but am not sure it's gonna work. maybe MP4 is considered to be one of those clients. plus denying access to the rest of people is somehow risky.

Instead of blocking everyone using multiposters, why not ban the IPs of those who spam your forum with fake links? There are many legit users who use multiposter the way its meant to be used. No point in blocking everyone in that case or you might be missing out on many great posters who post legit links using multiposter.

Prazsky. u're right.. the problem is that even legit posters who were used to post legit downloads, started posting this fake movies. i believe many forum owners noticed this. so am not willing to permanently block auto-posters. i just need to block temporarily until this issue is solved with uploaders
