What do you think is missing or lacking in the web hosts these days?

Some thoughts will be greatly appreciated and will help a lot.

Thank you.

Better servers and faster speeds for shared hosting a server with 2gb ram and 500mb connection is not going to cut it
Another thing shared needs is a min of 5gb of DDOS protection

Cant say that there's anything missing, but the real issue is that there are a lot of kiddie/reseller hosting companies out there, Who have no idea what kind of structure you need to run a Hosting company. Once they realize it, They shut the company.

There are a many good pro active Hosting companies, who invest a lot into Client Support alone. So its all upto the clients to do a quick review before they decide to host with someone.

Real time tracking of traffic cost with estimated monthly cost based on an average usage. Similar to AWS but maybe more details.
Some may be offering that but so far AWS is the only one I am aware of.
Connection speed to the Internet would be good to know, most don't list that.

I think web hosting providers are really not able to offer 24/7 real time support, they say they have 24/7 support service when they really take 24 hours to respond. Another issue is outsourcing, most of the technical support is outsourced to non-english speaking administrators who misunderstand customers and their requests. And major issue nowadays is DDoS protection, providers need to to work on that.

as great as cpanel is, it has not really had any real competition, i know there is directadmin, but it seems to slowly being dying out, as more and more company's use cpanel, i am not saying directadmin is not still a big company, i am just saying more people seem to choose cpanel.

i think we need some more options when it comes to this.
