Megabits or megabytes?

Question is a little bit stupid,but my friends claim that these are megabits/kilobits.I think it's megabyte/kilobyte,isn't it?

Megabyte is different to a Megabit. A megabyte is a Megabit divided by 8

In that image you're downloading 1 megabytes per second. I think ISP's are the only people who actually use the term Megabit to sound like they're giving you a better deal.

Megabit = Megabyte multiplied by 8.

You are downloading @ 1 Megabytes per sec or 8 Megabits per sec

As for notations,

mbps = MB/s multiplied by 8

Simple;

Mbps = Megabits

MBps = Megabytes

Case matters and as they said most ISPs do use that to make people think they're getting a better deal.

Mbps / 8 = MBps is correct.

Example:

100 Mbps / 8 = 12.5 MBps
1000 Mbps (1 Gbps) / 8 = 125 MBps

uTorrent, MB/s = Megabytes, they don't use Megabits.
