I found a step by step here that seems to work.
Installing OpenLDAP on Redhat / CentOS 6.3 - Identity Manager Ver. 2.3 (FINAL) - OpenIAM.com - Open source Identity and Access Management[/

But at step 9: To start the ldap server I am getting this error:

Checking configuration files for slapd: (FAILED)
/etc/openldap/slapd.conf: line 9: bad config line
slaptest:bad configuration file!

I am no expert, maybe its my fault and doing something wrong from those steps. I will ask the host too about the insallation failed error.

Rebuild apache to stock configuration, update apache and try to rebuild.

Also make sure you have not selected any modules that may interfear with LDAP, if your using cPanel it will normally show you on a pop up if it will.
