I am looking into different ways to drive traffic to a website and wondering how effective Reddit is for this. I know Reddit has a huge user base, but it also has strict rules against self-promotion. Has anyone had success using Reddit to generate traffic without getting flagged or downvoted? Are there specific subreddits or strategies that work best? Would love to hear any insights or experiences!

Reddit is a mixed bag, if you gain traffic that are useless, you might overload your servers. Let's say you run a video site, and the traffic you get from traffic is 50% from Tier 3 country, you'll have to bare the server costs while getting nothing in return to cover the costs. U will need to target subreddits that are Tier 1 countries focused maybe different language. Just my 2 cents.

Yes and No

Compared to magazine advertising in the early 2000's..... 99% of ALL social media traffic is crap
Unfortunately some platforms are worse than others.

Reddit is a mixed bag and your results are going to depend on which subreddits you post on and what you're promoting.

My advice is start by blocking certain nations from your site. Take out India, Nigeria and Pakhistan.

Yes, Reddit can be an effective source to bring traffic to a website, but it requires a strategic approach due to the unique nature of the platform. Reddit users are very sensitive to self-promotion, so using the site effectively for driving traffic involves understanding its culture and engaging in a genuine, non-spammy way.

This makes sense.

Wow 2025 already. Thanks for the update.
How costly the maintenance of phone farm would be?
Buy cheap phones from the Good Will or a garage sale. The rest of the hardware should cost you less than $300.

Use them to spam, data mine, upvote, etc...
Get free vpns and use them to click on your affiliate links /ads.

What about buying one in india or so?
Or in mexico?
In the US the costs for the working hours would sky rocket

I doubt your approach would work anyway

India is either going to fuck it up or fuck you over.
Because 99% of any business you do with India will result in a disaster or having people steal from you.

(-1.-) A time machine

Or
(-2.-) Build a phone farm then register 300+ profiles on all the social media platforms. Then upvote/like and comment on all your posts as if it was real.

PS. It's 2025
But doing upvotes/likes from our own group of accounts can be risky too.

Indeed! Reddit can drive traffic, but direct self-promotion usually fails. Engage genuinely in niche subreddits, share valuable insights, and use organic strategies like AMAs or helpful posts. Some subreddits allow link sharing, so find the right fit.

Yes, it is possible to drive traffic to your website through Reddit. Reddit is a popular social platform where users can share links to websites, articles, images, and other content. If you have a website or blog, you can use Reddit to share links to your content and attract visitors to your site.

However, it's important to note that Reddit has strict rules regarding self-promotion, and users who violate these rules may be banned from the platform. To avoid being seen as spammy or self-promotional, it's important to engage with the community by participating in discussions, offering helpful advice, and sharing content from other sources in addition to your own.

In general, the best way to drive traffic to your website through Reddit is to create high-quality content that is relevant and interesting to the users of particular subreddits (forums). By doing so, you can build a following and establish yourself as a valuable contributor to the community, which can drive traffic to your website over time.

I'm a content creator...
To be more accurate, I'm a former stripper, retired pornstar from the 90s and have been a PORNOGRAPHER for more than 15 years.

This "high-quality" content argument is pure bullshit.

I can spend $50k and produce an award winning video but it'll take me 4 years to start turning a profit (If I'm lucky)

On the other hand, I can film a woman on her period for $200 and it'll earn me $50k in the next 4 to 5 years.

The ONLY way the high quality content argument works is when someone else pays for it's creation and you pirate it !

Cheap... Vulgar.... Poorly Filmed dominates the Internet.

Kindly name ONE platform that doesn't lose its brains when someone advertises?

All social media platforms are filled with hudreds /thousands of trolls and moderators who are incapable of scrolling past something they don't like and instead chose to have a public mental breakdown

FYI you're responding to someone who obviously copy-pasted a ChatGPT answer.

You're spot on about Reddit — it’s a double-edged sword. I’ve seen people succeed with it, but it really comes down to how you approach it. Reddit isn’t a place for straight-up promotion; it’s a community first. If you jump in and start dropping links to your site, you’ll get flagged or downvoted so fast it’ll make your head spin. But if you take the time to genuinely engage, share expertise, or offer something valuable, people will notice — and they might even check out your site out of curiosity or gratitude. For example, if you’re running a blog about fitness, instead of posting “Check out my site!” in r/Fitness, try answering questions or sharing insights that showcase your knowledge. Maybe drop a little anecdote or tip that links back to a relevant post on your site — but only if it adds real value to the conversation. Subreddits like r/Entrepreneur, r/SmallBusiness, or niche-specific ones can be more open to this kind of subtle promotion, as long as it’s not too salesy.

The big thing is to respect the community. Each subreddit has its own vibe and rules — some are stricter than others. Spend time lurking, understanding what people respond to, and contributing before you even think about linking your site. When done right, Reddit can be a fantastic way to build credibility and drive traffic, but it takes patience and authenticity.
