Indexing TV Shows in Categories ??

I was approached by a regular visitor of my website with an idea today.
The concept of it is quite simple, but I'm unsure if I should go ahead with it or leave everything how it is.

If you view my website, you see the categories on the left hand side... These are organized in Categories & Sub-Categories.

The idea was to index each TV Show as a "sub-category".

For Example:

-------------------------------
TV Shows (7000)
Fringe (24)
Lost (35)
The Vampire Diaries (16)
-------------------------------

The idea is a good one, but I feel that it could make my category list unnecessarily bulky. Especially with the number of TV Shows. I have 30+ different TV Shows. That would mean 30+ new lines in the category list (do you see what I mean about it being bulky).

I'm not sure if something like this exists, but another idea that I have thought of could be... Instead of having them listed like above, prehaps I could "hide" the list.

For Example:

-----------------------
> TV Shows (7000)
-----------------------

But then, when a visitor presses the ">" the category opens a drop down list of all the shows.
Does something like that exist??

I think its a good idea but as you say it would be best to hide the individual categories until the tv show category is clicked. I'm pretty sure you can do this with javascript.

Its not very good for SEO to have so many links on one page ,

I did the same thing before , then there was this tool i used to checked my website kind of like a googlebot and got an error that there were too many links on the page
