I tried to install VNC on my VPS, and I got black Screen.

Hi,
I try to install VNCon my CentOS VPS, and when I try to connect, I got black screen when I try to connect through VNC,
Can someone please help me?

Have you installed some desktop evironment like KDE or Gnome? Have you installed X Window System?

1st delete .vnc file

then again

$ mkdir .vnc

$ nano .vnc/xstartup

Insert the following into the xstartup file:

fluxbox

Save and exit.

Make the xstartup file executable:​

Code:

$ chmod +x .vnc/xstartup

root@server [~]# mkdir .vnc
root@server [~]# nano .vnc/xstartup
root@server [~]# chmod +x .vnc/xstartup
root@server [~]# /sbin/service vncserver start
Starting VNC server: 1:root [FAILED]

Also When I try to install Windows X:

root@server [~]# yum groupinstall .X Window System.

Warning: Group .X does not exist.
Warning: Group Window does not exist.
Warning: Group System. does not exist.
No packages in any requested group available to install or update

maybe somtimes problem with root user

just try to make a new user and then try my tutorial

When I use this command:

yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment"

After it loaded a lot of things it writes:

--> Missing Dependency: httpd >= 2.2.0 is needed by package gnome-user-share-0.10-6.el5.i386 (base)
Error: Missing Dependency: httpd >= 2.2.0 is needed by package gnome-user-share-0.10-6.el5.i386 (base)
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: package-cleanup --problems
package-cleanup --dupes
rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

just install these things and ur ready to go

But how I can connect to Firefox, when I try in the menu of fluxbox, nothing happen.
