I got two computers and thought I would use one of them to create a dedicated server.

Does anyone have a tut on how I can do it?

Well for starters you need a server OS look here:
Code:
http://apps.katz.cd/search/windows+server
Goodluck by the way B-)

Yes actually, making your PC a Server is very good idea :D
I mean, you can get no Bandwidth Problems, No Hardware Issues Downtime if got, then you can fix it yourself quickly, but one problem, if you host warez, your gone !

why would you bother using a PC to run a dedicated servers. they are not meant to be used as servers to host unless they have sufficient hardware..(which i doubt your 2 computers have)

Your internet would be severly slowed down from doing this, and as for speeds, they would be slow.

Wouldnt it be easily to ship the parts to a datacenter to host for you at a cheap price or something?

you rather just buy a dedicated server from a data center, shipping parts to a data center and having them set it up for you is extremely expensive, not mentioning server management cost.

You can run a site on any setup. I've got an old P3 500MHz with 368 something RAM and it runs just fine. The only issue with running from home is your connection speed. If you have at least a 10MBPs based connection, you will do alright for small sites. Anything less will be slow.

Is this what Solidnode hosting is all about?

:)) JK! couldnt resist that one..

cheers

LOL! I knew someone was going to crack that joke. :p

If were using that, then I have it very well configured.

But on a side note... I think it took most of the day just to compile a kernel on it. ;(
