I have always been terrible at picking domains, but I recently found this site that Chris Pirillo made. You might find it useful: http://domains.tagjag.com/

Basically, you input a domain that you know has similar keywords to the site you'll be creating and it automatically generates domains and tells you if they are registered yet or not.
