For web projects, I think domain auctions are not always worth the delay.
If you are testing a new site, network, or service, you often just need a name that works. Watching an auction or waiting for a seller to reply can slow the project before it even starts.
A fixed price may not be the cheapest possible deal, but at least the decision is clear.
For people launching new sites, do you still bid on domains, or do you prefer names with a clear price?
