File host sections are killing this website.

Hello!

I am a long term member of WJ. I have been on here for a little over 3 years. I am good friends with many who have come and gone. I have regged this account because I know that moderators and stuff target people who "speak up". maybe thats a story for another thread but I want to move on for this thread.

Why doesnt WJ get rid of the elephant in the room? Which elephant? those two file hosting sections. File hosts support and file hosts discussion. These two sections are the biggest drag on all of WJ.

Why? because they attract people here who are not interested in the other 30 or however many sections there are. But when these people DO go into other sections, they are either trolls or they try and change topics to what they would be like in those two sections?

So hawk, why dont you delete them? Its no secret that this forum is nearly dead (activity wise). And you wanna know the reason? those sections. I asked a couple of old timers if they wanna come join in some threads. You know the response? WJ is full of idiots... and the source of them? those two sections.

My proposal is:

1. Remove those two sections.
2. Mass email members saying the sections are gone.
3. Watch active members return.
4. Get better content here.

Why are these two forums so important to WJ anyway? In terms of content, they offer a miniscul percentage of what is here. They are about 10% of the total post count. yet these sections seem to alienate the most people? And if its traffic you are worried about, well webmaster discussions now has MORE people online it than the file hosting sections. At least there is threads worthy of reading with actual content in the webmaster discussions areas.

Why not do a break down here?
Pros

1. less spam
2. less idiots in chatbox
3. less people asking stupid questions outside those sections
4. old members return
5. better content here
6. better focus

Cons

1. lose some shitty spammy traffic?
2. lose money? better than this site going completely down the sewer.

And what about the legal aspect? WJ is in the US... now I dont really care for the "freedom of speech blah blah" and all that jazz. None of that prevents someone from going via channels to get a stupid members information that makes a post like "I uploaded all this: XX". there doesn't have to be a "law" broken for that to occurr.

We have seen many excuses about why they should stay. Ranging from site activity to being scared of people using DP rather then WJ for file hosts stuff. But so what? at the end of the day, who cares if some visitors leave? they dont contribute anyway. If anything they are a negative for this website.

Please remove these sections, refocus WJ and get it back to been a community. If those two sections disappear this place instantly changes its image, its reputation, its member base, its average IQ, its content... the list goes on.

TL;DR

We have been through this, I even bitched about it using my account and not hiding, You won't get banned for having an opinion this isn't like the old wj.

Long story short it's not going to happen anytime soon wj would lose too much if this were to happe, For the time being its just not viable.

The only way this can happen is if we as a community pull together and help revitalise the rest of the forum (which is happening you just can't see it) overshadowing the filehost section like once before thus making it un-noticeable.

I am with you though it is frustrating this place taught me so much its a real shame what has become of it, But don't blame the current admins its not there fault M has only good intentions and he cares about this place as much as we do, He would never have bought it after the old admins just fucked it up if he didn't.

Yeah man this really sucks. Hiring uploaders and warez activity is banned but not filehosts promotion and discussions? Which i believe is the only reason for warez!And idontgetit your mean it's your dupe account? :S

We went through this subject more than once, and if you are old member, you should know that.
Site with alexa rank of 3K is everything but dead. (oh please, do educate me how alexa is not a good measurement of actual traffic)

So, it all boils down to this: if we don't host it, those who are THE loudest against filehosts, will build their own webmaster websites, to get filehosting section from WJ, to make money off of it.

If it's not here, it will be somewhere else. That's the bottom line.

It's like gay marriage, it doesn't involve you in that marriage, you are just bothered for no particular reason, with something that has no impact on you at all.

NONE of your 'pros' have anything to do with that section, at all.

Seriously, there's idiots in chatbox, like there's none in real life? That's just life, man. I could say for you, that you are an idiot, bt that would be just my opinion on it. Someone else would see me as an idiot. Basically, we are all idiots, by someone else's standard.

We don't want less people asking questions. That equals to less activity, and this forum being boring.

old members return

One cannot change the arrow of time, when will you realize that 99% of 'old' members just moved on with their lives, or got banned because they decided to be idiots you are writing about?

What you see here, was created by those old members you are talking about, yet you would want to get rid of their legacy, calling others idiots...

better content here

Better content is created by members who are interested in offering better content here. Not by those who are interested in reading better content. It won't create by itself. Content depends on contributors.

Do not ask what WJ have to offer to you, ask what you can offer to others.

What do you see here, that is out of focus? General section? Debating Zone?

Let me break it down for you:

You are webmaster.

Atm, you want to create a certain type of site, and you want to know how to do proper SEO for it. You go to SEO section, read material, get help. K, now you have some qustions, you can shoot them in proper forum, or ask in chatbox. Oh, you also wonder, wht type of CMS or script you should use, for your new site? There's section for that too...

You see where I'm getting with this?

Now, tell me, where do you see filehosting section interfere with your quest? How does it bother webmasters to do what they do?
It doesn't, there is no real reason removing any section from here. It will not contribute to anything. Forum won't get better, because of that section, people will not, all of a sudden, start engaging in different sections that they previously didn't care about. That's just an idea in your head, that it's the way things is going to happen, nothing else. What really would happen would be, that this forum would instantly die, and turn into desert, everyone would find some other forum, and it would be 10-15 people here for sometime, until this forum couldn't monetary sustain itself, and eventually die out.

And no, that isn't going to happen, no real webmaster, owning a website, doesn't want that. Why would anyone wants to kill his own website?

Here's analogy how things work.

This boat goes in one direction, and this boat has it's captain, read owner. He control where this boat is heading to. You are passenger. You can go where this boat goes, but no one really force you. You can't overtake someone's boat, telling them where it is going to go. You can suggest it, but that doesn't mean your idea must be accepted. There's a man who owns this site, and he's first and last word on how this site is going about. You can't blackmail him, you can't dictate any terms, you can't do anything. You can suggest, but not go all butthurt, bitching around, if your proposal gets rejected. And we saw this, oh, so many times. So many people just couldn't go on with it, so they decided to turn on 'idiot mode', and eventually end up banned.

You won't get banned for having an opinion this isn't like the old wj.

Tbh depending on your opinion, yeah, you will get banned.

I am sorry but I won't let you call me idiot. I have never said anything offensive on this forum and I am mostly active in those two sections you mentioned. I don't try to troll anybody.

Just some people think they are the Gods of Internet. You won't get rid of them, they are everywhere.

And last thing. Since I'm active in Filehost Support and Filehost Discussion I can confirm that I really rarely see someone insulting or trolling anyone. Even if, he's eaten by normal people visiting these sections.

And last, very last thing. If this forum seems dead to you, I'm Snow White.

there's +10 sections in the forum. So you can discuss on these sections about other stuff. nothing related to file hosts.
