Do cheap domains lead to weak long-term projects?

A low first-year domain price can make it easy to start a new project.

But if many domains in an extension are not renewed, it may show that people tested ideas and moved on.

For web projects, do you care about a TLD's renewal strength before choosing it?

No, cheap domains do not inherently cause weak projects. Technical performance, reliability, and security remain identical to expensive domains. However, low initial pricing often attracts short-term testing, hidden renewal price jumps, or lower user trust if chosen poorly.

Thanks nurip. I agree, maybe it is not "cheap domain = weak project", but cheap entry cost can make people start projects with less commitment.
