Why is it that I see people jumping on threads everywhere I look?

Maybe you don't ban people and infract people, but if someone finds a topic from google, starts reading it, and all of a sudden you get some idiot in the middle of it, you think they are going to register and participate?

Why not allow members who have issues - tempers - mental retardation as you would say, a place to go and speak alloud about their issues?

I don't see the big problem with it honestly? It's simple.

You create the forum, all of the other forums now have zero hatred in them, and you have a zero tolerance rule.
 
i agree with loget actually. Flaming in general isnt very professional and doing so publically could potentially ruin somebody's rep. If X doesnt like Y then there are plenty of other ways to skin a cat. Providing the means to do so here would not improve WJ. Msn/email/PM's - a lot more private and a lot more professional, and more likely to be resolved.

I for one hate it when the mother-in-law gets in the middle of my arguments with the better half, imagine 20/30/50 people fighting in one corner versus a poor kid who probably only said something in a joke...

Just my 2 cents.
 
Flaming in one place/topic often causes fires in other places. I don't think this is such a good idea. It would have an entertainment value for those reading it but that's about it. Why would we need a place to vent on the internet anyway?

Maybe the same reason we have a lounge and other community forums?
 
Well No offense but i don't think its a good idea. We are here on WJ to learn and share things, We shouldn't provide members a place to Fight. tbh this isn't productive thought in anyway.
Instead we should tolerate and behave more mature.
 
I gotta agree with Loget on this one....a flaming area might provide drama and entertainment for us but if the flames arent contained in that section then ppls rep will be affected and the workload of the forum staff will also increase. so this isnt such a good idea.
 
You guys need to look at it from the facts.

The facts are.

  • There is flaming already going on in many threads
  • Flaming happens every day
  • This forum is already infested with immaturity
  • This forum needs to deal with the immaturity
The result of the Steam Room (or whatever you wanna call it):

  • Less flaming in threads
  • Less flaming in shoutbox
  • Cleaner threads
  • Easier job for moderators
  • A more mature atmosphere
If you cant/dont understand why this is a good idea please explain with facts. As I have already used this method and tested it several times in several years. My forums have rarely had any vicious members jumping on threads putting down anyone, even if they dislike that individual it doesn't happen in the threads, it happens in that specific forum. Steam room does not market nor promote this type of behavior but allows members who dislike individuals to express themselves freely within that specified area. Instead of taking it to that members threads, posts and the shoutbox.

If you are worried that it will "worsen" the community, I assure you it will do the complete opposite.

Would it hurt to give it a try?
