one thing I'm assuming and it makes sense to me is that sign language can be translated into different languages, offering access to viewers who don't speak the language of the video, however there will certainly be other reasons.

if they are deaf they arent blind. Problem is they teach children sign language first, and sign language is unique language, for deaf ppl learning to read is probably harder.

agree, subtitles aren't the same as sign languages. deaf people learn and use sign language much easier than to read. remember that reading is highly related to speaking, so it's harder for them do it.
