Best linux OS for VPS?

There is no "best" distro for anything. Its all just personal choice.

That said, CentOS is an unofficial standard because it is based on RedHat which is/was the standard.

My problem with CentOS is the long release cycle. Upgrades are released only every 6 months. I also don't like rpms, but that's very much a personal thing.

All three are solid choices. Best thing to do is install all of the linux's you're interested in on a virtualbox image and see which one you prefer.

Personally I use either Debian or Ubuntu on all of my servers with the webmin interface. If you're looking to squeeze every once of performance out of the image then I would suggest FreeBSD or slackware (if possible) but the learning curve is much higher wit those two.

In the grand scheme of things they're all the same with minor differences and any linux can be customized to exactly what you need.

Can someone tell me which of these is best for vps?
Important for me:
Frequent updates
Easy to use and manage (my first time)
Supports cpanel
Supports rapidleech, torrentflux and sborg

Choice:
Centos 5.6
Arch Linux 2010 05
Centos 5.6 + Lamp
Debian 5
Debian 5 + Lamp
Debian 6
Fedora 13
Fedora 14
Gentoo 10.1
Slackware 13.37
Suse 11.3
Suse 11.4
Ubuntu 10.10
Ubuntu 10.10 + Lamp
Ubuntu 11.04
Ubuntu 9.10

Also each comes in 32bit and 64bit. Usually I choose 64bit for Windows but do not know about Linux. I assume 64bit is better for Linux too.

Appreciate any feedback and why do you think your choice is better.

CentOS is the best open source OS for server needs.
However, some companies like here in Poland use Debian often, don't ask me why.
Go with CentOS, it will be also good for your skills.
