I have seen a LOT of threads of people literally CRYING over filehosts.
Yes, Megaupload went down. Big news.
One of the reason why Megaupload went down was simply because they has servers in the US and they had to abide by US laws. They were found to be breaking copyright laws, so they were taken down. nuff said.
The thing is, many of you (uploaders) didn't even use Megaupload. Maybe you use it to backup your files. Maybe you didn't even use it at all. Or maybe you were the few that actually used Megaupload to store your legit files.
Now comes the current issue....
Earlier today, a few filehosts decided to get rid of their reward systems. A lot of the other filehosts have done this in the past (ex. MU, RS, HF, etc.) and so will other in the near future. Some hosts have even started mass termination of accounts that contain illegal (copyright) files. Some have even gone to the extreme by blocking the US from accessing their site.
Now I know it sucks. But some of you made have had some "earnings" on these filehosts. Who knows. Maybe you are a legit person and shared your own files (non-copyright files) with your friends or whatever. HOWEVER, most of you have uploaded illegal (copyright protected) files. AND, according to the TOS to ANY filehost, you are grounds for termination of your account, earnings, etc.
Also, according to some filehosts...
"We reserve the right in our sole discretion to edit and/or delete any Content, documents, information or other material appearing on the Site."
... that simply means. They have the right to get rid of their reward system, at any time, even without notifying its members. And you (uploaders) agreed to that rule when you first signed up for its service.
If the filehosts wanted to, they could gather your information and throw you under the bus, and YOU will be in the court room saying "Why oh why did I upload that copyright protected file, just to earn a few pennies".
The filehosts are offering a service. Some of these services want(ed) you to use their service so they offered things such as points or money as a reward.
Pirates decided to use this to their advantage and racked in 100's and 1000's of dollars, if you don't believe me take a look at some of the idiots that post their earnings just to brag about it.
I for one believe the filehosts themselves should NOT be punished for they are just offering a service of online storage, a service which some people used for legit purposes. The real criminals here are the uploaders who decide on using filehosts just to earn money. Keep that in mind before you upload your next file.
