I was thinking a little... :) How can whois protection really protect you ?

I mean, if someone wants to take you down, and you are doing illegal stuffs, he can probably find that out nevermind you are protected. Right ? :S

Yes, it can't really protect you if you're illegal, but it can protect you from the curiosity of some not-so-powerful legal threads. :)

Cojba, It's quite simple. There are sick people out there, whois protection should be free everywhere, and contact info should not be displayed publicly. I mean, check this example .. Natasha is sweet 19yo girl from Ukraine. She's a real hardcore blogger, she bought some domain, natashapwnsredheads.com ... So, there are lots of haters, and she didn't bought privacy protect option, and boom. Those sick stalkers have her home address, phone number, everything ... So yeah, if you're not afraid of stalkers, don't use whois protection.

Ok, soo, if I want to host warez linking, I don't need whois pr. cuz it can't help...

And if someone try to contact me, he will get what he deserves... :P

I would buy it for a warez domain. There are a lot of noobs in the scene who will try and hurt you. Sounds rediculous and it is but its true.

Buy it to keep the kids away.

But why would you want to put your real name, address, phone number, etc?
Because if they steal your domain you can't get it back unless you are a very good english speaker and have lotsa money to phone the registrar ;)

Trust me, been there, done that :D

I'm not sure about just one thing. How can someone hurt me ? He will contact me via mobilephone, or send me something to home address ? :S It would be my pleasure to fuck him off... :)

You are thinking inside the BOX. They could use your information against you. If you think you are fine without it then don't buy it. Let everyone know who you are and where you live.

best thing to do is set up a domain on a fake address using a brand new paypal account (after getting funding on it through paypal transfer). gives a tad more anonymity and a bit of protection from getting suspended

just enter fake name etc details in the whois and you should be ok. ;)

you never know... some crazy guy could show up at your house tomorrow. xD

It depends who you want protection from, If you want protection from the authorities it’s as useful as a burst condom (basically it offers you no protection, as all protection services hand over details when requested and most comply with the laws of the united states.)

If however you want protection from people, maybe you run a porn site and don’t want your family, boss, girlfriend to find out, then of course whois protection is useful, without it anyone can get your name, address, and phone number and then use that to find your boss, your girlfriend etc....

So ultimately you need to think about if you have something to hide, i have nothing to hide from family, friends etc. so don’t bother with whois protection, the side effect to this is any man and his dog can go find my name, address, phone number by spending a few seconds on domain tools, to be honest this doesn’t bother me one bit because, my name and address is in the phonebook anyway... but if you run a site you wouldn’t want your family, friends etc. to know about, then of course it’s a worthwhile investment, if you don’t buy it and someone phones up and tells your girlfriend, or maybe you still live with your mum that you run a porn site (or some site which would be frowned upon in your culture) then just imagine the consequences, the hurt feelings all of which could be avoided with a bit of whois protection....

I always use domain privacy and always with my correct details, phone num, location, etc.
Am i noob? :P

Opsss...

I correcting myself:
I always use domain privacy, but always register my domains with my correct details, phone num, location, etc.
