Oh I see. You said s3 so I was checking Amazon to see what type of account offering I might have missed. That’s s3 compatible. Personally I don’t know anything about them. They’re considerably cheaper on paper at least up to 8TB.

Give it a shot. The script supports any s3 compatible host.

Try on their free account. The guy testing s3 compatible hosts disappeared off the face of the earth for the last version update, so I haven’t made sure there’s no glitches linking up.

They don’t seem to have much of a name anywhere I check. I’d be careful.

It's definitely very cheap, but I am more concerned about the reliability. I wish there were some solid track record or signs that we could depend on it long-term before moving anything important there. Thank you for the link. I guess you are using them already.

So checking this out a bit more and I see no reason to go with it. The pricing you listed is incorrect as well. It's still low, but not $2/TB. I can't find any real reviews of the provider. It looks like a templated XFS script, and it's annoying to look at. Those types of sites seem to shut down without warning.

It's also priced in EUR not USD, so you can't say $2.

8.00 TB storage there = $28.85 USD +/-. With B2 that same storage would be $55.6 +/-. I wouldn't risk losing all my stored files for that difference in cost.

Who knows even how secure their servers are or their uptime over the years (which I don't think they even have the history). B2 and similar have a proven high usage track record. Everyone can claim awesome service until they get tens of thousands of users.

Do you know where B2 stores your data? Mega corrupts my data; they never refund me. B2 lost my data 4/5 years ago; just the apology, sorry! We get hacked! 100s of people lost their CC data sold on the dark web.

Yes. They list all their datacenter locations and you can even pick where in North America or Europe you store your files.

Your claims make no sense. Backblaze does not store credit cards in plain text. I also see no mass data loss. I think you used their personal backup and didn’t understand that if you delete local it deleted the online copy as it clones data.

Im not defending or accusing anyone. But your claims like B2 had never had issues or Mega out of honesty! BTW, B2 and Mega both claim 100% data recovery still fails badly. If you need data backups, there are 100s of tools and websites guaranteed to do that. Object storage (s3) we use for hot data is that purpose served by them? Is the new provider pocket-friendly? Do I get the same service or not?

Mega.io offers the same object storage system with their file-sharing system attached. You have no issue with that?
 
Yeah, so a malicious user gained access to a users computer and deleted the files and the backup on Backblaze personal backup. Not b2. The main backup was also deleted.

This is what I said you were likely talking about.

Backblaze was not hacked.

Mega and that new service, I don’t know. You’d have to try them. Mega seems more trustworthy.
