Never use VPS before and I need to order one soon.
I wonder how the hosting company make the linux partition for their customers.
If they just give one big root partition. How can we re-partition it ? Can't umount the root partition without using live CD, right ?
depends on what you buy.
if you buy a KVM-VPS - no problem. Just fire up VNC, insert the Setup-CD via Control-Panel and reinstall according to your needs.
if you buy a OpenVZ-Container:
no chance to do it yourself.
What they have per default is s.th. i don't know.
The easiest way is to go and ask them. Many of the hosters here will help you or even install it according to your needs.
