CHMOD in GIT

Hey!
I'm using WinXP SP3 and git with http://www.heroku.com/

How can i set chmod 0777 to a specific file?
chmod 0777 foldername
is without effect, because windows won't accept octal chmod values..
Any ideas on that? :/

of course the remote server isn't running WinXP SP3.
But i can't change the local chmod (since windows isn't giving a fuck) and commit that change..
so how to change it at the remote server?

since i didn't want to enter my credit card details @ heroku to get a mySql database, i was trying to implement a simple file-based database. (since i don't have much data to save anyways)
