what is the difference between openvz and kvm?

Its a matter of performance, and features, with OpenVZ you can't use your own kernel, but with KVM you can use your own, with OpenVZ you can't load an ISO of your choice, with KVM you can, also the overall performance is better with KVM, however with XEN if you're a person that would have high CPU load, then its the right choice for you.
